Breckenridge is one of Colorado's most popular winter getaways. It's easy to get to, the skiing is great, and the town itself is so charming. We'd skied Breck several times but never really explored the town until we booked a stay nearby in Dillon. Here's my guide to spending winter in Breckenridge, from where to stay and eat to exactly what I packed.
Getting Your Bearings in Summit County: Breckenridge, Dillon, Frisco + Silverthorne
If you're new to Summit County, here's the quick rundown. Dillon, Frisco and Silverthorne are small towns right off I-70, with shopping, restaurants and Lake Dillon. Breckenridge, Keystone and Copper Mountain are each a short drive from them. Staying in one of these towns instead of on the mountain is usually much cheaper.
Where to Stay in Breckenridge
I have heard many wonderful things about staying at one of Jamie’s properties in Breckenridge. She runs her own vacation rentals and her property is called Chestnut Hill Cabin.
Where We Stayed Nearby in Dillon
We booked a cozy Airbnb for the two of us and it was perfect: gorgeous views, just enough space for two and really affordable for winter, which is hard to find.
If you can swing it, stay in or around downtown Breckenridge. It has that cute mountain-town feel and you can walk to almost everything, so everyone can do their own thing.
Best Restaurants + Apres Ski in Breckenridge
Relish
You know you're in the right place the second you walk in. Relish is owned by Breckenridge locals, and its cozy dining room is lined with windows, which makes it perfect for après. Happy hour runs daily from 4 to 6 pm, and the menu is worth the savings. They source as much local food as possible, and you can taste it. Grab a window seat along South Main Street to watch the lights twinkle and the snow fall.
Aurum Food & Wine
Make a reservation! Aurum is one of our favorite spots to dine in Breckenridge year-round. Think modern farmhouse vibes and a menu that's perfect for a date night.
Skiing + Snowboarding in Breckenridge: Parking Tips
Breckenridge has plenty of free parking, with a gondola that takes you to the base of the mountain. If you don't mind paying, I suggest the Peak 7 lot. It's where we always park, and you get on the mountain much faster.
As an intermediate skier, I love Breck's huge selection of green and blue runs. Just know you'll need to work your way across the peaks to get the most out of the mountain.
What to Wear in Breckenridge in Winter
Mountain style is all about cozy layers that still feel elevated. Here's what I packed for a winter weekend in Breck:
